As Chase Jarvis noted years ago, "the best camera is the one that's with you".

Elizabeth Samuels, owner of Indigo Art Gallery,  was a little shocked when I arrived to shoot her for an editorial assignment armed only with my iPhone. Beautiful late afternoon light in the gallery, a point and shoot  iPhone 4S and Instagram gave me the tools I needed to make a portrait that reveals the strength and vision of an extraordinary woman.

An actress and costume designer at Torn Space Theater, Jess Wegrzyn works at Bistro Europa to keep body and soul together.  She arrived at the shoot wearing a beaded wolf necklace, a gift from her grandmother.  We decided to photograph her against a chestnut colored seamless.  I shot numerous frames as Jess spun; this is one of my favorites because it captures Jess's ethereal yet guarded beauty.

Jess Rector is part of the talented and hip team that own Vera Pizzeria in Buffalo's Elmwood District.  She was shot against a lavender insulation material lit from behind.  This  smoky backdrop highlights Jess's urban style and exotic beauty.

A large swath of north facing windows, railroad tracks, a block long, post-industrial building powered by turbines and generators--these are a few of the reasons I love my studio at Tri-Main Center, Buffalo, NY. The building provides many backdrops for shooting actors, musician, models--in fact, anyone with an adventurous spirit.

A national client wanted to emphasize performance and protection of a new surgical glove in a visually appealing image.  The sculptural design created by  Quiller and Blake required a strong, defined hand -- preferably female.  The resulting image is elegant and clearly illustrates the dexterity and finesse this glove provides operating room professionals.

Improvised photo play capturing party goers as they went airborne at a live photo shoot in my studio.  Trimaniacs were ringlit as they levitated on the count of 1,2 (bend your knees), 3 (JUMP)!

The studio door opened and they just kept jumping in.  Shot about 100 of Buffalo’s most artful people in 5 hours. Exhausting and exhilarating...

Many years ago I picked up a beta fish and brought him to the studio.  Little did I realize that the Bob Era had begun.  Bob was always engaging, interactive and very happy to be fed.  Honestly,  it felt great to be so warmly greeted every morning.  Clients and staff of all ages also enjoyed chatting with Bob as he peered intently at them.  Bob was with me for almost 4 years. He was followed by Bob II, and then, Bob's III & IV.  Today, I'm happy to introduce Denim Bob, the latest in a long and venerable line of studio greeters.
